The whole thing has become a crazy obsession with many. They are buying expensive, single-purpose oriented hardware. Just to mine the effin thing.   Hardware that will become obsolete in a year or two.

GPU prices have risen because of this madness.

So you have major hardware in the world doing nothing but shuffling these zeroes. I didn't realize the eco impact was that significant. Burning electricity to shuffle zeroes from one place to another and then back.  Who would have thought.

Jack Nicholson in the Shining doesn't even come close with his typewriter trick.

I want to draw a parallel from a sci-fi flick. The outer limits, remember that one?  they had an episode about this one though the name escapes me.
